Fish Oil And Mental Health
Click on the link above for an important article by Kathleen Kendall-Tackett, Ph.D., IBCLC, about using fish oil in the treatment of prenatal and postpartum mood disorders. In the “old days” pregnant women were told to eat fish. Now, because of pollution and contamination, we are told to limit our intake of fish. This may contribute to perinatal mood disorders. Fortunately, in the distillation and processing of the fish to make the capsules, most brands have been found by consumer watchdog groups to be safe for consumption.
Warning! The capsules are large. You need to read the labels on the back of the bottles carefully to make sure you are getting the correct amount of EPA/DHA. Some brands have the “serving” amount as one pill. Some have a serving size of 2 pills, and still don’t come near the desired amount of EPA.
